Fit-Friendly Summer Drinks

Fit-Friendly Summer Drinks

There’s something about drinking a sweet iced cold drink in summer that is so satisfying. On cooler summer mornings I like bringing my laptop outside and enjoy a beverage in the backyard. Minnesota summers can get brutal fast though with high humidity and 90 degree days. On those days, I like having one of these drinks to keep cool and also stay on track with my macros.

In summer, I tend to enjoy more time out with my friends and family taking in all summer has to offer. Sometimes I just enjoy the time, but most of the time I track my macros. All of these drinks are macro-friendly and low calorie to keep on track.

My Favorite Fit-Friendly Summer Drinks

Cold Brew Coffee

When I’m rushing to get out the door to work on a hot summer morning, the last thing I want to be drinking in my car is hot coffee. Even when I get to work, I’m usually still too warm for a hot cup of coffee. Last year I discovered cold brew at my local grocery store, and it’s a life saver! I love iced coffee, but it can be expensive at a coffee shop and it’s just not the same when I make it home myself. Cold brew is also naturally sweeter than iced coffee, which is an added bonus.

My store carries Stok Cold Brew and I’m sure many grocery stores carry an unsweetened cold brew that you can find. In it, I mix in some Torani Sugar Free Vanilla Syrup and unsweetened almond milk. It’s so delicious. It always hits the spot. And I can’t recommend it enough.

Sweet Tea

A few weeks ago, Southern Breeze Sweet Tea reached out to me asking if I wanted to try some of their products. Their teas are already sweetened with sucralose and have zero calories – I was intrigued so I accepted their offer. They sent me their cold brew Original Sweet Tea and Half & Half, both of which I enjoyed. I prefer the original version and recommend brewing it with more than the recommended 8 ounces because of the sweetness.

Southern Breeze Original

If you have a sweet tooth and you’re looking for something to drink this  summer, I’d recommend checking these teas out. Use their store locator or code FREESHIPPING online. I’d love to try the peach version or even flavor the original version with a peach syrup or Mio Water Enhancer.

Copycat Starbucks Passion Tea or Green Tea Lemonade

Copycat Starbucks Passion Tea Lemonade

These are perfect for a hot summer afternoon! I used to get these from Starbucks until I realized I can make them at home for much better macros. Starbucks’ macros aren’t bad to begin with, but there’s always room for improvement.

To make this at home you’ll need a raspberry herbal tea or green tea. Starbucks used to brew the Passion Tazo Tea back in the day, so that’s what I buy for my recipe. For the lemonade, I use a the light Minute Maid version which is only 15 calories and 4 carbs for 8 fluid ounces or 240 milliliters.

  • Passion Tazo Tea (raspberry herbal tea works too) or green tea
  • 4 fl oz. or 120ml Minute Maid Light Lemonade
  • Water to taste
  • Ice

Brew the tea and steep per the directions, chill in the fridge for a few hours. When you’re ready to enjoy, pour over ice, add the lemonade and a bit of water if you like a lighter flavor. Stir and enjoy!

Moscow Mule

I know these drinks are super trendy right now, but I love them. I’m not a big cocktail or wine drinker, but I can get down with one or two of these on a warm day.

When I want to make my own version at home, I go for this Gosling’s Diet Ginger Beer which has 0 calories. Ginger beer is pretty popular, but not all are created equal. If you’re buying in store, be to check the label.

Now let’s talk about the copper mugs these are served in. There’s actually a function to them. They make the drink very cold, quickly – the only way to enjoy them. Because the drink on trend at the moment, the copper mugs are in high demand so they can be a bit spendy so I just add a lot of ice to mine.

  • 1 oz. vodka
  • Gosling’s Diet Ginger Beer
  • Lime
  • A lot of ice
  • Copper mug (optional)

Add a good amount of ice into a copper mug or low ball glass, pour the vodka and ginger beer over – use your judgement on the ginger beer. Squeeze in fresh lime and garnish with lime wedge. If you’re not using a copper mug, let the drink sit for a minute or two to chill. Enjoy!

Vodka Soda

You can’t go wrong with a simple vodka (or other clear alcohol of your choice) and soda. I like mixing together raspberry or mango vodka with a flavored spritzer water. This is also something that you can order a bar to keep calories low.

Light Beer

Keep things simple and grab a case of your favorite light beer for the cabin. I like Corona Light with a lime wedge.
